 Marijs Boulogne ' de Swelf'
The entrance of the exposition is through the work of Marijs Boulogne.

The sculpture proposes a mobile, dynamic and female omnipotent presence. The giant crochet vulva with clitoris is not only life-giving, but also the gateway to the abdomen. Our gut is controlled by
our limbic nervous system and on its
turn it is linked to our brains.

Curated by Elke Desutter

in collaboration with CC Sint-NIklaas

Initiated by Special Arts Festival

Where is the line between passion and obsession? Artist/curator Elke Desutter takes you through the creative process of various artists where passion flirts with - and often turns - into obsession. Although obsession has a negative connotation, it can act as a driving force to explore a topic.

You enter the expo as if you were entering the body; via 'De Zwelf' by Marijs Boulogne. All connection and life starts here. After 'De Zwelf' you take the narrow aisle as a 'road' to the brain. Here you find the thinking process of the artists, and then finally you enter into the 'brain' of the expo. This part of the exhibition is the main hall. By analogy with our brains, the room is divided into four parts, each of which symbolizes a lobe of the brain. Each area has its own characteristics. There are no inner barriers between these four quadrants. They work in harmony and share information with each other. For each area, work by different artists has been brought together, each in their own way they deal with passion and/or obsession. The line between passion and obsession is sometimes thin and fades when an artist is completely overtaken the work.
